If you haven’t seen this film, where have you been?!
This, for me, is one of the best comedy chick-flick films, which is why I wanted to share it with you guys. After recently having a whole day to myself, on a dark, drizzly day here in England, I decided to light a mango and coconut candle, get cosy, and put on the DVD. It’s one of my go-to films to watch, and never fails to make me laugh, even though I’ve seen it so many times!
The film follows the planning of Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) wedding, and the rivalry between Annie (Kristen Wiig), Lillian’s oldest friend who is going through a difficult time, having had her bakery close and her relationship break down, and Helen (Rose Bryne), Lillian’s new friend, who is elegant, rich and well-connected, as they compete to throw the best wedding events and fight for Lillian’s friendship. There are so many stand out, hilarious and shocking scenes in the film – from a shopping trip that doesn’t go quite to plan, to an eventful flight to Las Vegas. But the film isn’t just a string of funny scenes put together, there is also a great storyline underneath it, mainly following the character of Annie, who’s life seems to unravel before her eyes.
Kristen Wiig plays an amazing part, with a not just fantastic comedy performance, but also with those more serious, emotive scenes too. But the other stand out performance for me was, of course, Melissa McCarthy, who is one of my favourite comedy actresses. She literally makes me laugh out loud in every scene that she is in. And the fact that Rebel Wilson is also in this film just seals the deal in making it amazing, even though she’s only in a few scenes (sadly!).
So if you want a feel good, comedy film then you NEED to watch this! And even if you’ve seen it before, make sure you get this film out soon and it’ll be sure to brighten your day!!
