Suicide Squad

First off, I should probably start by letting you know that this isn’t a film that I would typically watch at the cinema. Although I love X-men, I don’t usually watch superhero films, and so don’t really have that much knowledge of them! So maybe bear that in mind whilst reading this…

Despite the mixed (and that’s putting it lightly) reviews of the film from the critics, I actually really enjoyed Suicide Squad. The film was jam packed with action throughout, and my eyes were glued to the screen for the entire film – I was hooked! Instead of the usual goodie vs baddie storyline, it was baddie vs badder, as a team of supervillains were recruited from their prisons to fight the evil power of the Enchantress (Cara Delevigne), who planned to take over the world.

The cast was full of big-name, talented actors and actresses, and I loved that there was such diversity within them – with a mixture of races, genders and nationalities, everybody could relate to at least one of the characters. Each supervillain was introduced through a brief back story, showing their powers and evil acts before they were caught and imprisoned. Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), a prison psychiatrist that fell in love with the Joker and became twisted, fearless and so sassy, Deadshot (Will Smith), an assassin that never misses a shot, and the Joker (Jared Leto), a character that even I knew of before seeing the film, were by far my favourites, and were played amazingly. I also thought that Cara Delevigne did a great job. Before watching I had no idea whether she was chosen to be in the film for her acting skills or for her name, but I thought she definitely showed that she has acting talent, essentially playing two characters!

I would have liked to have seen more about the background all of the characters, especially those given less of a focus, such as Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), who I thought had the potential to be a great character given more attention. I also would have loved to have seen more about Harley and Joker’s relationship, but with the potential for more films to come after this, I think that one focusing on them would be amazing!

As far as entertainment goes, I thought this was a great film. Although it did have some flaws, it kept me hooked from begin to end. And I also already now know that I want to dress up as Harley Quinn for Halloween (although maybe with not so short shorts, I think only Margot Robbie can pull those off!!)

  1. This is on the cards for date night this week. It looks like a lot of fun!

I tend to ignore reviews. I have loved alot of films that have been panned, and I have disliked many films which have been critically acclaimed.

    Each to their own 🙂

    • I’m completely the same, I wonder if its the difference between seeing a film as an expert and as a lay person! Hope you enjoy it if you end up watching it 🙂

      • Definitely 😉
Perhaps you can indicate in the start of your post in future whether it’ll be spoiler-filled/free? Honestly, I was contemplating whether to take the risk before actually reading so the problem I’m seeing here is that people might avoid reading at all since they might be worried for spoilers.

Just wanna share this cause I almost didn’t read it!

      • Yeah for sure. I actually normally put that I don’t put in spoilers, so I’m not even sure why I didn’t with this one! Think I got a bit carried away writing! Thanks for the tip though 🙂

    • Yeah, I hope they do more films with these characters, I think they have a good foundation for it! Thanks for commenting, hope you’ll follow along if you’re not already 🙂

  2. Happy you liked the movie. Agree with pretty much everything you said – except for Cara, who I think needs to improve her acting skills.
Anyway, it’s great to see critics are not always right, given how many people actually liked the movie. Kudos for a nice review 😉

  3. I finally got to see this movie after being cooped up in the house all weekend with strep. OW! I loved this movie! I think my favorite thing about it was the music. I also loved watching Harley and Joker’s love. They are so cute together, in a psychotic, bad guy way. 🙂
